A Photo Story

The morning after the night before…

This weekend, the girls and I roadtripped to Mayo, where a gang of us partied between the watchful eyes of Croke Patrick and the Atlantic ocean. The following morning, we set about exploring, and I brought along my camera. I wish I did more things like this.

All photography: Jane Kenny, except photo of us in the water taken by a friend (I’m the last blonde on the right, in up to my neck)

Oh and here is me, reluctantly shot by the ever wonderful Tri. xx

Thread Launch

Mathematically speaking: Fashion (I love) + Party (I love) = (I love)(fashion + party)

Business people would call it synergy. I like to call it a real good time. Friday marked the launch of Thread magazine, a new quarterly fashion magazine. With Aisling Farinella at the helm, it was sure to be a great publication, and the Thread team did not disappoint. Concise yet loaded, the newsprint magazine features some of Ireland’s hottest talent. It was a party to celebrate a publication that exemplifies Irish fashion media at its most innovative, resourceful and exciting; and in keeping with their Friends theme, South Studios was full of friendly faces on Friday night.

I look forward to the next edition, and I can’t wait to see what they do next!

A couple of friendly snaps I took on the night (above), and the magazine itself….

Be sure to snap up a copy (they are free!) in the amazing Indigo & Cloth, Bow or Costume before they are all gone!

NCAD Degree Show #1

The NCAD Degree show goes on til Sunday. Opening Hours are until 8pm this evening (Friday) and then 10-5 tomoro (Saturday) and 2-5 on Sunday. I have yet to see all of it, as I have mostly been invigilating the textiles section, but I can’t wait to see the rest and report back. Gonna keep it quick today, the challenge is “an outfit you wore to a special occasion”. Last Friday was the opening of the show/results night, which was special enough. I got a first in my thesis, which was on blogging, so I was really delighted with that, as there is so little academic research on fashion blogging and how it is tied into identity, DIY culture, and all sorts of other nerdy things that I can never get enough of. And so here is what I wore, what some of my friends wore, and also a bit of the exhibition itself. I settled on the dress I bought for my friend’s wedding back in February, and my trusty American Apparel sheer oversize blouse, and of course, the Kirkwoods….I’m going to have to stop wearing them so much! Happy Friday!!!

Good Riddance!

2010 has been a funny year. And as much as some amazing things happened, I’m not that sad to see it go.

But in the spirit of positivity, here are some of the good things that came out of it.

1) I started Noisy Shoes.

To curb useless procrastination, and waste my time in a more positive fashion (ha!), I started this blog. Here’s my very first post. It was my 2010 resolution. I am glad that I did it, and I am grateful to every one of you who still read it, and leave me such lovely comments – I appreciate every single one of them. Here’s to a resolution I actually saw through, and I’m looking forward to another year of doing the same.

2) Best friends 2010

I’ve told you about him before, but my main bro Orlando is a stellar chap. He’s an unreal dj and an all round nice guy. You can find him over at lancitylimits.com. This year we decided we were going to be best friends, because we thought “best friends two thousand and ten” had a nice ring to it (it does, doesn’t it). We djed a good bit together this year, got stupid drunk together, and generally acted the maggot. I’m pretty sure we’re still gonna be friends once January 1st hits, but here’s to best friends 2010. And seriously, check out his blog, his music is unreal.

Orlando & I. lol.

3) NYC baby

Back in February, I went to New York City. Pretty much enough said! It was rad. I want to live there for a while someday.

4) London town

In the summer, I interned in London. It was also an amazing experience, both in terms of work and what I learned, but also living with 5 of the best birds on the planet. Mostly the living with my best mates if we’re being honest. Works great and all but having the craic is even better! There’s really no way of describing how much fun it was without sounding like a total dickhead (it’s ok, all my friends are dickheads too), so I won’t. But it was great. Despite all of our (not) fixie bikes breaking. All 6 of them. That’s what we get for buying ropey bikes on Brick Lane though.

5) Published work

I do textiles in college, but I also want to work as a stylist/photographer as well (how original says you). This year, I styled a shoot that appeared in the Sunday Independent, and helped style & shot a shoot (?!!) for a friend of mine’s masters’ magazine, Tweed Yourself, which I was very happy to be part of. here it is here to look at.

So that was 2010. I hope yours had more ups than downs, and that the same is true for 2011. I’ve decided to start a visual diary for 2011, that’s my new years resolution. I got two more cameras this week so it seems like the right thing to do….Happy New Year! x

Thinks it’s fantastic, it’s made out of plastic

I LOVE Holgas. Love Love Love them. Now, I’m not great at taking pictures on them – yet. But I love the fact that they are shitty pieces of plastic that started off as a cheap-as-chips camera. I love that they are so unmodern. I love that they take amazingly unpredictable photos that have light bleeds and amazing colours. They are tacky as anything, it’s great. Actually, thinking about it, I really need to use mine more. I must remember to bring it to New York. Where I’m going, in 10 days (eh, so excited!!!). Here are some of my current attempts.
