Nature Knows Best

I am a big nerd. Sometimes being a nerd is cool though. No really. Like, science for example, say physics. Honestly, I’m a bit shit at maths so I don’t really understand it, but some of the models from particle physics make really awesome patterns. And the inside of CERN is really cool looking. Don’t know what CERN is? Yea, see, I’m a freaking nerd alright?!

See, isn’t it COOOOOL?!

Also, Natural Geographic. It’s not as nerdy science-y as New Scientist (another super cool science magazine that i, ahem, have seen in the shops….), it’s more like Nature Class in junior school to New Scientist’s leaving cert physics. But it’s jam packed full of amazing shit, which, as a designer is amazing for colour inspiration. And you know, nature’s deadly and all that jazz.

See it’s not just all FASHUN, you know. Although I love the way nature can evoke a mood that you can translate into fashion. Like the last image, it just screams WOOL. And the one above it, silk. Ok, so maybe it’s almost always FASHUN. And what of it?

Pour myself a cup of ambition

I have not posted in a week. Which is bold. Sorry. But we’re fine, ok? Let’s just move on.

I love this dress. I bought it last year in New York, and at the time it wasn’t in style at all but it was so beautiful I had to have it. I am very happy that the whole ’70′s thing has kicked in, because this summer it’s going to be a really lovely thing to throw on with a nice pair of sandals or something. And the colour! Nom NOm Nom. In other news as of yesterday I am 60% finished my degree. So there will be celebrations tonight, because we were all to delerious, sleep deprived and just plain dead to do anything yesterday. Woop. Oh, and I got an email from American Apparel to tell me that one of the outfits I shared with you guys was featured on their best of seen and submitted. Which is better than a slap in the face with a wet kipper. Ha!

I’m getting my hair did.

Summer is a funny concept in Ireland. Mostly because our mid year months are much the same as the ones on either side of them – rainy. And not that warm. Nonetheless, we do our best to embrace summer styles as best we can, even if we have about two days that are warm enough to actually wear them. One of this summers brightest trends, literally, is WHITE. It’s fresh, clean, modern, pure, bold….oh it has lots of meanings. It’s also a very daring statement when worn on its own, or in less than sunny weather (don’t wear white after Labour Day). I am also currently in the hairdressers getting my hair back to white. so there.

Having said that, this season’s crop of white looks amazing. While it’s not really neutral, it makes a nice change from all the beige around. And you can always mix in some tan leather to add some colour in a modern minimal way. Or black, for a monochrome look.

Here are my favourite Daz whiter than white looks of Spring Summer 2011.  You’ll notice some of my other favourite SS11 trends, such as lace, sheer (chiffons, tulles, and seriously burnt out devoré abound this season), and shirts! I think I’ll probably do a post on shirts later….

Bout time…

So last September I decided to ignore the SS11 shows, because it was Autumn and there was Winter on the way and I didn’t feel like looking at Summer things. But now it’s fashion week time again. Talk about missing the boat. Anyway, in the spirit of doing things arseways, here’s one of my favourite colour trends for Spring Summer 2011. I’m digging the new neutrals, heading towards reddy orangey earth tones. And blue is basically my favourite colour so I’m happy as larry.

Inspiration Interlude

This week has been MENTAL in college, I have deadlines coming out my ears. So here’s a collection of things that have caught my eye over the past little while I think they are pretty and hopefully so might you! Happy Weekend, hope you are taking it easy and not tits-deep in dreaded thesis work…..FAIL!!!! Have i mentioned that it’s due on Valentine’s day too? HA!

The brand above are called Seneca Rising, and images from their lookbook were on Pattern Observer. I think their aesthetic is really strong, and I love the way they make graphic prints look quite soft. And the colour and styling is really gorgeous too.

So, there you go. Little mini post til I sort my life out!

All of the beautiful colours…

Although there are reports that there is more snow on the way (I have even bought those snow grip things just in case!), I have started thinking ahead to Spring Summer collections, and what I might wear once it finally warms up a bit.

I noticed a little bit of a colour trend in a few of the shows, and I’m really into it. A combination of tan, black and blue, it’s a development of the camel/denim that’s been going on for the last two seasons. Observe…

It’s a slightly darker twist, bringing indigo in instead of the lighter denim blues. I’ve always been a fan of black and blue when it’s done right, and I love the darker sienna-y/ochre-y hues as a change from the lighter caramels and tans. I am gonna start stockpiling now.

*As a side note, shorts and no tights…I can’t wait for those two weeks we call summer to be able to wear shorts and no tights…

Colour me beautiful

Here’s a couple of my favourite colour stories from the latest collections. So pretty, but just short of candyfloss. Not brash, not cutsie and defo not bland. Get into it.
