Colour Me In

The Lazy Dog is this really cool store that I stumbled upon a few years ago in Paris. One of my friends shit a brick when he saw that they stocked some really alt super hard to find doll (he maintained it was a really cool figurine designed by some deadly graffiti artist. looked a lot like a doll to me). Anyway, enough slagging Magnus, my point is that the other day I saw this on their website. I think it’s just aces, and I can think of more than a few boys (and a few girls) who would have great fun with this at birthdays/xmas.

The sneaker colouring book is available here. Check out some of the other stuff they have, it’s a little treasure trove of cool stuff to buy that you don’t really need but will enjoy looking at/listening to/watching/wearing.

This is Really Silly #2

Dogs drool, lemurs rule!

Sometimes I’m walking down the street and something will remind me of the monkeys in that film Madagascar and I laugh out loud. I’m not denying that there’s probably something wrong with me but those little dudes crack me up. Who doesn’t want a lemur?! They look like they are constantly stoned or something. But stoned in a fun way, not the can’t-move-getting-the-greenies kind of way.

(LOOK.AT.HIM!!!!!!!)

(LFMAO)

This isn’t the best quality but it’s the best one i could find on YouTube. I wish they made a film just with the lemurs. Oh, and maybe the penguins. They’re funny little bastards too. Lol. I need to stop watching kid’s films..

Pianos and Queens

Think the piano neck tie is a bit corny? How about a piano suit instead? No, it actually exists. Here, look!

(image: Etsy)

Ok, so here are two websites that I actually think you would quite like, as I am a little bit in love!

The Boudoir Queen

http://www.theboudoirqueen.com/

I’m not going to give you any pictures, because I want you to click on the link. The website is great, and the clothes are beautiful and romantic, in a Courtney Love kind of way. She’s actually a big fan. Of them, not me. Yet…..

Queen’s Wardrobe

http://queenswardrobe.com/

Sticking with the theme of Queen’s and getting dressed, Queen’s Wardrobe is the kind of website that is a blessing and a curse. Blessing because of the AMAZING clothes for very reasonable prices. It is also a curse for exactly the same reason. And when you are broke it is a torturous curse! Again, no pictures, go have a look at the site.

That is all. Well, apart from this little snippet from one of the best.films.ever.

Short straw

I have recently started cycling. Well, when i say started, i have used my bike like twice in a week. But i want it to become a regular thing, for excercise and to save money. Oh yea, and the environment. Yea. Anyway, a friend who is an avid cyclist recently called me for advice on what to wear cycling (tho why I would know, what with two cycles under my belt, is another thing). Apparently lovely summer dresses are suceptible to, well, basically showing loads of panties when the wind catches them, which happens loads coz you are on a bike. Body-con is no good coz it’l ride up exposing aformentioned pants. Jeans are no good coz it’s summer and they are denim and you sweat like a little bitch and that would be gross. Long skirts are out coz they can get stuck in the chain and the wheels and make you fall over which hurts and you risk showing everyone (yes you guessed it) your pants….So that leaves us with either forgetting about the bike idea, or wearing mostly shorts and light trousers. Luckily, fashion is favouring the cyclist at the moment and there is an abundance of both both at designer level and in the high street. Here are some of my favourite shorts of the moment:

Alternatively, try cycling shorts under dresses. Protect ones modesty and still wear floaty lite dresses. It can actually look quite nice too, once the lengths are right – avoid the hockey knickers effect. American Apparel have cute cycling shorts with a band lace at the hem, as well as regular ones in all colours.

This is turning into a very long blog post, turns out I am really liking shorts at the moment. I might find an excuse to do another post about cycle-fit trousers and rompers another time, but for now, get on your bike and ride!

*ps – i’m actually disgusted that YouTube has flagged the original video as questionable content!!!

Mom Jeans

They say every woman eventually turns into her mother. And much like every other woman who hears this mantra, I have been hoping to buck that trend. However, thus far I have developed her total inability to say no to things, a predeliciton for shoes, a hopeless sense of fiscal policy (read: I can’t save for the life of me), and more recently, a worrying penchant for, well, mom jeans…

(I’m really bad at technology so I don’t know how to embed the video here but press Ctrl + click on the link to watch it, it’s very funny – http://www.funnyhub.com/videos/pages/mom-jeans.html)

In the past couple of months I have purchased a pair of vintage 501′s, a smart pair of golf trousers, and two pairs of Liz Claiborne sporting shorts. Don’t know who Liz Claiborne is? Ask your mom. And I’m not the only one – have a flick through (Ctrl + click) LOOKBOOK.nu and you will be met with a bunch of bright young things who’ve raided their mom’s wardrobes.

What is it about our generation that is so into dressing like our mothers and grannies? Our mothers were revolutionaries, shocking their mothers, who had done the same in their time. Not to get all feminist on it or anything, but seriously, why are we such sartoiral wusses?! How come I am happier in a nicely cut pair of shorts my mum and my nana thinks are “very smart” than in an outfit that shocks her? Or, if i had the cash money, this gorgeous outfit from Tibi’s AW 10 collection. Flesh coloured blouse anyone?? No, really.

Perhaps it’s the influence of style blogs such as The Sartorialist, whose aesthetic has been particularly influential in the past couple of seasons. Scott has an eye for classic tailoring and preppy style that nicely encompasses mom jeans and questionable golf shorts. Maybe I should be blaming him and not my mother?!
