When I win the Lotto #1

I bought a lotto ticket for tonight. And if i win, I’ll be buying these!

This camera is beyond sexy. But the price is very definitely not sexy. Like $5,000-ish. Phew!

My friend told me about these things yesterday, they are soooo cool!!! They have tiny little screens in the keys and you can program them so that little pictures come up instead of the generic letters. It was developed for gaming geeks but whatever, think of the awesome patterns you could have on ur keyboard!!! Altho make sure you revise ur Mavis Beacon first, otherwise it’l be typo central!

he’s not the messiah, he’s a very naughty boy

Messiah J & The Expert are two nice lads that went to nice schools in Dublin. Which, on paper, means they are very unlikely candidates for hip hop awesomeness. On paper, tho, Mick Jagger is some old bloke who’s a member of Lords Cricket Club. Messiah J & The Expert are in fact amazing, both lyrically and musically. I love J’s lyrics – they are at once very very particularly Dublin but also universal truths, and a lot of the time pretty funny. And The Expert’s beats are savage. Sometimes it makes me sad that they are not more famous than they are.

Watch this video, but more importantly, go buy their albums. Yes, actually buy them. Part with your cash.

ps. i think this video is class. but i did lol at the lads in the garden around 2.00…they so gangsta…eh…ahem….hmmmm.

Do the locomotion

When I was young I used to think that Kylie was the Greatest Performing Artist OF ALL TIME. Naturally, I was devastated when I found this next video, and realised that perhaps the midget aussie might only be an average pop princess in a pair of slappery gold hotpants (tho to be fair if i looked as good in them i’d probably wear them too…..)

Also, I love her Busby Berkley backing dancers….busby who you say? eh, only the greatest choreographer of all times. makes that dance show on MTV look like a bunch of saps. actually, they look like a bunch of saps anyway. but you know what i mean.

(it gets good around 02:20)

(this is just mental!!!)

and this one

Michel Gondry (another hero of mine) was inspired by Berkley a little bit when he made this

and I also love this one

If you havn’t watched Michel Gondry’s documentary, do so immediately. He’s a genius (proper mental, bonafide crazy genius).

Happy Sunday. xx

Let’s get some shoes

I am a girl which makes me genetically obliged to love shoes. This is one of the only obligations in my life that I am more than happy to comply with, especially when shoes look like this -

(image via: geekshoes.com)

The Christian Louboutin Poiseidon. Nom! Want. Altho not so much in the silver, the gold are faaaaaaar nicer. But instead of me showing you the nicer ones I want you to see for yourselves on Christian Louboutin’s KICKASS website – LINK. State of my face for only checking it out today. It’s a little weird, a little sexy and very fun. And the shoes……………….

(image via: luxury-insider.com)

As a strange aside, I have only recently become aware that I have a strange obsession with peep-toe shoes. If you asked me, I would never say I pefer them over other types of shoes (I am an equal opportunities shoe purchaser) but on a recent wardrobe overhaul, I own at least 15 pairs of peeptoe heels. Many of which are also slingback. This was a very unconscious decision. I don’t actually know why I choose them. In many ways they actually annoy me, especially when it rains and you realise that peep-toe is just a cute way of saying giant-hole-in-the-front-of-your-shoe and you end up with icky rain feet. gross. I wonder if they could make peep-toes a bit like convertibles….so you could close them when it started to rain…..Mr. Louboutin if you could just see to that? thanks…

Thinking about shoes always makes me hear this song in my head.

And I suppose I can’t talk about shoes without leaving you with this, lol

Citizen Kane

I have a difficult relationship with Christopher Kane. I sometimes think he’s the shizz, and other times think he’s beyond overrated. This season is no exception. And for this autumn, I think both things at the same time. His own collection is, well…this….

(All images via Style.com)

I don’t know why I’m not into the heavily embroidered leather/lace combo, as on paper it’s something I would go nuts about. Maybe it’s the colour palette, which seems arbitrary rather than considered. Or the placement of the decoration. Or maybe it’s the floral motif, which jars a little bit too much to work….And it’s just my opinion, but I just don’t think the pieces are well excecuted.

And then we have his collection for Versus. I was a big fan of Versus first time around, and in many ways, that early 90′s Vogue/supermodel/quilted leather & gold aesthetic has shaped the person I am today. I was expecting to love the new collection, and I do love it. And Mr. Kane designed it. Here, see for yourself

(All images via Style.com)

Under Donatella’s guidance (Versus is Versace’s little sister), Christopher (is it cool if i call him that?) has released his true genius. He has reminded me why I love Versus as a brand, and also that I think he’s a really talented designer. The panelling on these dresses is beyond considered, it’s sublime. The combination of textures is just right and the colour palette and just everything……….I just used the word sublime. Enough said!!

Mabye this is just a personal taste thing and I simply don’t get his mainline collection. Or maybe I’m right, and his Versus offering is in fact miles better. Having range as a designer is a good thing, and testing boundaries and trying new things is the only way forward. But I think ultimately, unless you’re very very out there, the Versus collection will be selling better this autumn. What do you think??

Scarlet Fever

In a season that celebrates beautiful neutrals, soft colours and soft shapes, it it refreshing to see a flash of shocking colour running through. Scarlet featured in so many of the shows for AW10 in some capacity, either as a highlight of as a big feature. Here are some of my highlights. You can be Lady Danger (my beloved red Mac lipstick) in hed to toe rouge, or you can be a little more demure with scarlet highlights, to suggest an air of mischief. And it’s good news for us pasty pale Irish-skin types – Scarlet actually looks stunning on white as white skin, yipeee!!!

(Ps Note the red velevet….noms. Expect a post on velvet sometime in the near future)

Here are some crappy songs with red in the title…

1) red red wine

2) lady in red

Simply Red are a simply average band

99 Red Baloons is a good song

Red Hot Chili Peppers are a good band

Faux Pas, Ooh La La

What do you give the woman who has everything? A fashion faux pas?? Navy and black, the long established sartorial no-no, is having its moment.

You could go á la Sonia Rykiel, Alberta Feretti & BCBG Max Azria and team with flashes of off-white, or like Bottega Veneta, Fendi & Louise Goldin with hints of shine (silk or leather – you choose…maybe both, raar!)

As a final aside, how cute are Sonia Rykiel’s little pompom hairbands…..I want one!
