horsing around

i’v loved hermes for a long time for many different reasons. when i was young, i coveted a hermes saddle (for my wonderful horse, Herbie). These days, the appeal is less equstrian, more fashion. The bags, the scarves…well you know the deal. But rather than me bang on about it, why don’t you while away a time admiring their delightful website. It’s as unique as their products.

Enjoy!

legs akimbo

i saw these online a while ago, and the other day my friend emailed me from japan about them. i’m so useless at tights that the first time round i looked, laughed and continued oogling some pretty dress or other.

But when shane mailed me, i gave them a little more attention. screenprinted tights. sure why not?!! i actually think they are amazing.

And if i didnt snag, ladder or cigarette burn every single pair of tights i’ve ever owned on the first wear then i would surely invest in a pair.

Maybe if i asked nicely they might create a ladder-effect pattern for me?! If they are a little too out there for you, try the selection at AmericanApparel.net.  AA stocks pretty much every imaginable permutation of tights i can think of, in a million colours. And i know this coz iv had to stock check them :/

didn’t i my dear

I’v been reading Wicked (in anticipation of going to see it on Broadway when I go to new york next month), which reminds me of the lion in the Wizard of Oz. This is unrelated to Mumford and Sons’ truly beautiful Little Lion Man. As another aside, I didnt realise til I watched the video below that they are a fairly dashing bunch. And the video is a gem. Enjoy. xx

Life is better with a spoonful of leather…

About 10 years ago, i bought my first sketchbook. In it, i can really vividly remember drawing (badly) a rick owens style leather jacket as a thing of pure WANT.  Ten years on, and although an awful lot has changed, my desire to own a Rick Owens jacket has not. google rick owens leather jacket and you get about 70,000 results. apparently i am not alone.

I dunno whether it’s the asymmetrical zips, the butter leather or the cut -  or probably all of the above – but they make me want to do crazy things to get one. Like start a savings account.

I am not a massive fan of his general aesthetic – check out the diaper look from his SS11 collection, hmm.

However, he is one of those designers who is really really good at creating separates that can be styled and worn in the real world. If in the real world you have two grand to spend on a leather jacket….*sigh*.

Be my friend, Isabel

I developed a new designer-crush just before Christmas. Isabel Marant. I love her clothes and her styling and her ads and her clothes!!! And altho I prefered her debut A/W09 collection, I am carrying this crush through to summer.

(via: isabelmarant.tm.fr)

Her SS10 collection reminds me of cowboys & indians , think ethnic styles with a cowboy attitude. and while a lot of the tribal detailing and massive beads wouldn’t be my cup of tea, the beauty of Isabel’s work is that her collection is really obviously made pu of covetable pieces. Jackets to die for, devine little dresses, super easy to wear tops. It wasn’t a perfect collection – I’m defo not sold on some of the stripey fabrics she used – but it was an incredibly wearable one, full of well thought out garments.

I think part of the reason why i like Isabel Marant is that her clothes are just that – clothes. While i covet certain garments from other designers, i often do so as objects of art. if they were in my wardrobe i’d find it hard to actually wear them. Not so with Marant, who has perhaps favoured style and wearability over exaggerated concept or out there design. Stepping out in her clothes could be an every day occurance (ah if only i had the money!) without looking like you got lost on your way from a costume change at a shoot.

See the whole collection on her website and judge for yourself.  In my opinion though, her jackets are the perfect thing for a date, a gig, lunch with the girls, going to work and just about everything else you can think of.

If I Ever Feel Better

So far 2010 has been a fairly crappy offering of shit weather, really shit weather, colds, flus and more shit weather.

This is what outside my window looks like (instert gusting wind here)…

The other day by my house it looked like this………

Times like these, there’s only a few songs that are gonna do….this is one of them….

Phoenix have been getting loads of airplay recently with ‘Liztomania’ and ’1901′, it’s mad to think that ‘If I Ever Feel Better’ was released in 2000…still one of my favourites.

Clean Slate…

there is nothing more intimidating than an empty sketchbook. or blog. bit like pristine runners, you have to scuff them a bit before they are properly yours…

new year, new way of procrastinating. in an attempt to wean myself off facebook, i’m going to blog instead. about FASHUN, of course, but also about music and other nice things like that.  my mission statement…..to put together an interesting mix of things i like that other people might also like to look at while procrastinating themselves.

Now, slate’s not so clean. Time to get started.
